CalMac cancelled a number of services due to the bad weather.
Today’s afternoon ferry from Oban to Barra and South Uist has been brought forward in a bid to run ahead of bad weather.
Stormy conditions and rough seas are forecast to hit parts of the Western Isles.
The Met Office said a low pressure system off the north west of Scotland will bring a severe gale.
Heavy rain is due into early Friday morning, turning to wintry showers in the southern half of the islands.
The more severe conditions are likely in Uist and Barra where conditions may increase to storm force on Sunday with heavy gusts up to 70mph.
Weather permitting, the MV Lord of the Isles will now depart at 7am for a lunchtime arrival at Barra and hopes to head to South Uist after a fast turnaround.
However, Cal Mac stressed berthing in Lochboisdale is looking doubtful due to the forecast conditions.
Uist passengers are advised to consider using the Uig – Lochmaddy service as an alternative if possible.
If the ferry cannot get into Lochboisdale then tomorrow’s (Sat) South Uist to Mallaig sailings will be cancelled.
