Comedian Ed Byrne has given more than £22,000 from a popular TV show to help Scottish mountain heroes.

Mr Byrne donated his share of the winnings on a recent episode of ITV’s Celebrity Chase to the body that represents 24 of Scotland’s mountain rescue teams.

In a Celebrity Chase Christmas Special, the Reverend Kate Bottley, Dr Ranj Singh, reality star Toff Toffolo and Mr Byrne took on all five of the Chasers.

“We are extremely excited to announce that the incredible @MrEdByrne donated his £22,500 win on Celebrity Chase to Scottish Mountain Rescue,” said the rescue body on Twitter.

“Thank you so much for your continued support to Scottish MR – it is very appreciated.”

Mr Byrne is used to seeing the funny side of life.

But the comedian linked up with Scottish Mountain Rescue earlier this year to pass on life saving tips in a video about being prepared for Scotland’s mountains in winter.

Keen hillwalker Mr Byrne talked to Damon Powell, chairman of SMR about how to stay safe in the hills.

“I’m sorry if we have made it feel like death’s icy hand is around every corner,” says Mr Byrne.

“The hills are a great place to be in the winter.”
