An award-winning film that was shot in a Moray town and used locals as actors will be screened there for the first time.

Bodkin Ras is a dark Scottish thriller based in Forres about a young fugitive who arrives in the north-east of Scotland and courts suspicion wherever he goes.

A unique aspect of the movie is that there is only one acted character in it, Bodkin Ras, with the rest of the cast made up of real inhabitants of the town and their genuine reaction to the arrival of this mysterious newcomer.

The mix of fiction and documentary combines to create an unusual cinematic experience as the real stories of Forres locals are used.

Personal relationships were formed between the film crew and key personalities in the town and the insight into their lives has won the film positive reviews around the world.

It has won awards at film festivals in Rotterdam, London and Istanbul and is the directorial debut of Kaweh Modiri and stars Sohrab Bayat.

Bodkin Ras will be screened at Forres Town Hall on Saturday December 1 and members of the cast and crew, including Modiri and Bayat, will be in attendance and will take part in a Q&A after the film before joining guests for a celebratory pint in a local pub.

Actor Sohrab Bayat was looking forward to returning to the film’s spiritual home.

He said: “It really feels as if the film is coming home. I’m very happy to be with all the beautiful people again whose lives, faces and stories have touched the hearts of thousands of people around the world since it’s initial release.”

One of the local actors who played themselves in the movie, Eddie Paton, could not wait for the Forres people to see it.

He said: ““It’s about time it came back to Forres. I can’t wait for everyone here to see the film. The film has helped me lot, but more importantly, it’s a message to the public. I hope that when they do see it, they see the life that’s in it.”

The screening takes place at 7.30pm and is free to guests and you can reserve a place on the guestlist at: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/bodkin-ras-forres-screening-tickets-52273711077.
