Caley Thistle climbed to eighth in the Premiership table thanks to a comfortable 3-1 victory against Dundee at Caledonian Stadium.

Richie Foran’s men were thoroughly deserved winners against a poor Dark Blues side, triumphing thanks to goals from Lonsana Doumbouya, a penalty from Greg Tansey and Liam Polworth, with Paul Hartley’s side pulling back a late consolation through Nicky Low’s free-kick.

Inverness’ only change from the side that drew 2-2 against champions Celtic the previous weekend saw Jake Mulraney replacing Iain Vigurs. Dundee made the trip north in search of their first win at Caledonian Stadium, with former Caley Jags midfielder Nick Ross occupying a place in midfield, but James Vincent and Danny Williams on the bench.

Caley Jags were denied an opener on seven minutes when Mulraney burst down the right flank before the ball broke for Ross Draper, but he found the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Scott Bain equal to his eight-yard effort.

The home side did find a way through just 60 seconds later however, when Brad McKay’s deep delivery from the right picked out the head of Doumbouya, and he glanced an effort beyond the dive of Bain and into the far corner.

Inverness were handed the ideal chance to double their lead on 16 minutes when Dundee defender Julen Etxabeguren was adjudged to have hauled down Billy King as he drove down the inside left channel, with Tansey stepping up to thump the penalty past Bain.

Dundee had barely got into the game but they twice forced Caley Jags goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams into action before half-time, with the Welshman doing well to beat away Faissal El Bakhtaoui’s strike from the edge of the box on 20 minutes, before making an even better save to thwart Cammy Kerr’s close-range effort.

Caley Jags virtually killed the match off just six minutes into the second-half, with an incisive move on the counter-attack, as McKay marauded forward before threading a pass through to Polworth to tuck a low shot past Bain.

The goal left no way back for Dundee, with Inverness creating further chances to add to the scoreline, Bain doing well to keep out Mulraney from close-range after Polworth had latched on to a loose pass back from defender Kevin Holt.

The Dark Blues pulled one back six minutes from time when Low curled home a free-kick from the edge of the box, however it was too little, too late.
