Two stunning goals from Nicky Low and Niall McGinn gave Aberdeen a well-earned victory against Partick Thistle.

It was a commanding display from the Dons and the perfect response to last week’s 1-0 defeat at St Johnstone.

The Dons made three changes for the match from the side that was defeated 1-0 by St Johnstone last weekend with David Goodwillie, Low and Ashton Taylor drafted in to replace the injured Russell Anderson and Willo Flood, while Adam Rooney dropped to the bench.

David Goodwillie’s downward header was well stopped by Partick goalkeeper Paul Gallacher before Mark Reynolds’ attempt was cleared off the line by Stephen O’Donnell.

Aberdeen had a strong appeal for a penalty when Taylor was hauled to the ground by Conrad Balatoni but referee Brian Colvin waved play on.

Within two minutes of the restart, Nicky Low broke the deadlock with a perfectly placed drive from long range which flew past the despairing Gallacher.

And Northern Ireland international Niall McGinn put the game beyond the Maryhill men after 66 minutes when he curled home an exquisite left-footed strike from the edge of the area.
