Cove Rangers boss Jim McIntyre has solutions in mind to replace suspended striker Mitch Megginson against Arbroath.

Megginson picked up his sixth league booking of the season against Queen’s Park a fortnight and will sit out today’s clash at the Balmoral Stadium.

Cove have gone with two out-and-out strikers since the Ayr United game last month, with Gerry McDonagh enjoying a run in the team alongside Megginson.

McIntyre could bring in Leighton McIntosh up front, after he came off the bench to help grab a point against Arbroath, or bring in a wide player like Jamie Masson, Cieran Dunne, Luis Longstaff or Robbie Leitch and move Fraser Fyvie more central.

All options have been under consideration for McIntyre as Cove look to keep their impressive home form going.

“We’ve got quite a few (options) and that’s why you try build a squad,” said McIntyre.

“It’s disappointing that Mitch will miss out but when you’ve got a competitive player, who cares about our results and decisions, he’s going to pick up bookings.

“We don’t want to take that out of somebody when he’s as committed as he is to Cove.

“There’s an opportunity for two or three players that can come in this weekend.

“Nine times out of 10, my teams have gone with two strikers and we have now got the midfield behind the strikers that allows us to do that.

“We have scored plenty of goals and as long as we do that, we’ve got a good chance of winning games.”

An impressive run of form has propelled Morton into promotion contention and Cove will be the latest side trying to stop the Cappielow outfit in their tracks.

When the two sides met earlier in the season in Greenock, the home side emerged 1-0 victors.

“They’re undefeated in seven and that’s propelled the to the top end of the table,” added McIntyre. “That highlights to every team in the league that if you show that wee bit of consistency, it’s doable.

“But we’re strong at home and want to continue our decent record and make sure we come away with three points.

“We know we’re going to be in a game. The strength of Morton is how hard they work and their confidence levels will be at a peak at the moment.

“We need to be at it and match them all over the pitch to win the game.”

Aside from Megginson, Cove will only be without defender Kyle McClelland (ankle) for the game.
