Keith FC: The future is bright, the future is Maroon

Keith FC

All of a sudden Keith only have one game left in a season that has been a bit of a helter skelter for Maroons fans.

From a Keith perspective I think that the goalless draw with Deveronvale on Saturday gave the Terracing Tams a glimmer of hope of better days on the horizon.

It may be eight years since we have beaten ‘Vale at Kynoch Park, but it was a close call on Saturday.

It maybe wasn’t the most exciting Keith-Deveronvale encounters, but in truth Gordon Winton’s troops probably shaded it, having the better chances to bulge the old onion bag, and on another day they would surely have done just that.

This season more youngsters perhaps than normal played in the Maroon shirt, due to various circumstances, and it was good to see four teenagers in the line-up at the end of the match.

Good experience for all the young lads, and one or two worthy of mention have been outstanding like 17-year-old goalie David Dey and wee buzzbomb Greg Smith, who have bright futures.

Craig Cormack is another who has blossomed this season, he was missing on Saturday through injury, and has notched up five creditable goals.

It would be amiss not to congratulate Brora Rangers on their marvellous feat of having retained their crown without losing a game – no mean feat to say the least, and to have scored 134 goals and lost only 13 in the process reinforces just how good they have been.

Money doesn’t always buy success, just ask some of the other clubs who have spent heavily for no reward at all, but it has worked for Brora. To lose only one league game in two seasons is phenomenal in any league, so well done to them.
