Wholesale electrical supplier John MacLean and Sons Electrical (Dingwall) has reported a record year after growing profits by more than 85%.
Accounts just released by Companies House show the business, which trades as MacLean Electrical, also achieved a large jump in turnover during the 12 months to March 31.
As well as headquarters in Dingwall, MacLean has offices in Wick, Aberdeen, Cumbernauld, Newcastle, Great Yarmouth and London.
Its international projects division serves customers in numerous counties overseas through facilities in Europe, the US and Australia.
The firm’s managing director, Donnie MacLean, could not be contacted yesterday but recording its big lift in pre-tax profits to £9.39million on turnover up by nearly 43% at £140.2million in its accounts, MacLean said: “The directors are pleased to report record results for the year, with continuing growth in our core markets.”
“The group continues to trade profitably, with forecast results for 2014/15 anticipated to be in line with current (2013/14) year results.
“With a strong balance sheet and substantial cash resources available, the directors shall utilise these to capture growth opportunities which exist across sour markets both locally in the UK and worldwide.”
The firm completed an extension to its Aberdeen facility during the year, adding 5,000 square feet of new warehouse space.
A new warehouse and offices in Great Yarmouth were also completed, with the handover from the contractor taking place in April.
MacLean, which employed more than 200 people in 2013/14, was formed by the current managing director’s father, John, in 1974 to supply specialist electrical equipment to the developing UK North Sea offshore oil and gas market.
It describes itself now as a “world-class” electrical distributor specialising in the supply of electrical products, lighting systems and cables for harsh and hazardous environments in onshore, offshore and renewable-energy, petrochemical, process, marine, industrial and infrastructure applications.
The firm’s energy industry support facility in Aberdeen is said to house the largest inventory of specialised electrical products for the UK offshore industry, with the Great Yarmouth site supporting customers operating in the southern sector of the North Sea.
The Granite City workshop and offices – at Peterseat Park, Altens – opened in 2007 after a £4million investment by the company. MacLean previously operated from two sites in the north-east – a MacLean Electrical business unit in Hareness Road, Aberdeen, and Noskab, the group’s cables division, at Portlethen.
