Aboyne Golf Club will host a sporting event for the army’s national charity, the ABF, on Friday, September 30.

The ABF, formerly known as the Army Benevolent Fund, was founded in 1944 to provide support to soldiers, forces veterans and associated charities.

Organiser Catherine Robertson Ross, said: “ABF is a charity I very much admire due to the steadfast work and assistance they give to those ex-servicemen and women who have sacrificed so much in our country’s name.

“Some 50% of funds raised are donated to those who serve and have served our country and their families in need.

“The other 50% is gifted in grants to other charities such as Poppy Scotland, Erskine, Scottish War Blinded, SSAFA, Combat Stress, and the Gurkha Welfare.”

The all-in cost of participating is £160 which includes bacon rolls on arrival; green fees; a two-course meal; and what have been described as some ‘once in a lifetime’ unique prizes.

Mrs Robertson Ross added: “We are extremely grateful to Aboyne GC for allowing us to use their fantastic venue and for their unbelievable support and generous donation towards this charity event.

“We are offering the chance to win a £20,000 car for a hole-in-one at the 14th hole – what a prize worth winning! ”

Club president, Scott Mackie, added: “It promises to be a great day and we actively encourage golfers [both male and female] from across the region to come along and join in the fun and enjoy our fantastic hospitality.”

More than 20 teams have already registered for the competition which is open to players in teams of four playing a Texas Scramble format.
