Stephen O’Donnell insists Partick must make their win against Hearts count by using the victory as a springboard for the next few games.
The Jags ended a run of 10 games without a victory by claiming all three points against the administration-hit Jambos last weekend.
Thistle now take on their three closest rivals in the Premiership when they face Ross County, Kilmar- nock and St Mirren this month.
O’Donnell believes the cluster of key games is the ideal time to put some distance between themselves and other top-flight strugglers.
The defender said: “Hearts are a bit further behind but you can see how tight it is at the bottom. Every game is vital but one game doesn’t get you away from it.
“We have three or four home games coming up and, if we can get a few points, hopefully that will put a bit of distance between us.
“These are certainly games we want to try to get something out of. We are playing the teams round about us, so, hopefully, we can get a gap.
“At this stage of the season, we can’t panic too much if things don’t go our way.”
Partick host a Ross County side which arrives at Firhill today bolstered by last week’s win against St Johnstone.
O’Donnell said: “Ross County are a good side. I’ve played them a few times now.
“Hopefully if we play to the best of our abilities, we can get the win and go four points clear.
O’Donnell has welcomed the arrival of new loan signing Lyle Taylor.
But he insists all the players must pull together if they are the haul themselves up the table.
O’Donnell added: “He’s a good player and he’s got quality.
“Just bringing a new face in adds a bit of a spark to everything.
“As an individual he has brought a bit but it’s all about working hard for each other.”
Meanwhile, Gary Fraser has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Partick Thistle which will keep him at Firhill until May 2016.
However, they are waiting for clearance to see if he can play against County.
