A man is in hospital, following a brutal assault in Aberdeen.

Police were called to Menzies Road in the Torry area of the city in response to reports of a “serious assault” at around 2am.

A 24-year-old man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with “serious injuries” but officers said they were “not believed to be life-threatening”.

Another man, 32, has been taken into custody and subsequently charged, following the incident.

But police are still urging anyone with any information to come forwards.

Constable Kevin Souter, from the Aberdeen divisional alcohol and violence unit, said there had been no threat to the public during the disturbance.

He added: “We would like to thank the local community for their patience while this incident was dealt with.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to stress that this was a contained and isolated incident, and that at no point was there any threat posed to any other members of the public.

“Anyone with information should contact us on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if they would prefer to remain anonymous.”

The assault, although a separate incident, is the second to happen in a period of weeks in the Torry community.

Police appealed for witnesses after a 26-year-old man was assaulted on an Aberdeen on Walker Road in Torry, near its junction with Victoria Road, at around 7.30pm on October 27.

He was assaulted by two men who have been described as white and aged in their 20s or 30s.

Police have since charged a 17-year-old in relation to the incident, while inquiries are still ongoing for the other suspect.

Torry and Ferryhill councillor Graham Dickson responded that serious attacks of this nature were “incredibly rare” in Aberdeen.

He added: “This kind of thing is still incredibly rare to happen to any part of the city and it’s shocking to hear this part of Torry has been affected by violence.

“The police have managed to detain someone promptly, however it is still important that any member of the public with information comes forward with it to police or Crimestoppers.”
