Police warning after hand bags, electrical goods and cash stolen from Aberdeen cars

Hand bags, electrical goods and cash are among the items stolen from cars in Aberdeen since the New Year.

The valuables were taken from unlocked vehicles in the Bridge of Don and West End areas, in a new spate of thefts since January 1.

Chief Inspector Nick Topping urged owners to double check they have locked their car before leaving their vehicles.

He said: “These crimes have all been opportunistic where the vehicles have been left unlocked.

“We are asking people to please ensure they have left their vehicles locked and secure.

“If you have an automatic fob, check that it has worked – it only takes a couple of seconds.

“Don’t leave anything of value in your car. If you have to, please leave these secure and out of sight, ideally in the glove box or boot.

“That way the temptation to opportunistic thieves is taken away.

“We have and will continue to carry out additional patrols in the areas and I would ask that you assist us by doing what you can to prevent these opportunist crimes from happening in the first place.

“If you see suspicious activity in your neighbourhood please report it to us on 101.”
