A dangerous driver led police on a chase through a busy residential area, smashing into cars before ploughing into a fence.
Derek Paterson hit speeds of up to 60mph in the Mastrick area of the city, home to many families and young children, as he tried to evade capture.
Police tailed him through Howes Drive, Howes Crescent, Provost Rust Drive, Springhill Road, Cruden Place and Davidson Place on his mad dash.
They eventually caught up with him when he crashed into a fence.
He locked his doors and refused to exit the vehicle, so officers had to smash a window and pull him out. He then refused to give two breath samples at Kittybrewster police station.
Fiscal depute David Thorburn told Aberdeen Sheriff Court: “At around 10.30pm on March 11, officers on patrol saw the vehicle being driven at excessive speed.
“They followed him onto Provost Rust Drive and tried to stop him. He didn’t, and turned left onto Howes Drive. Clearly he was failing to stop and a pursuit was declared.”
The 43-year-old, of Longview Terrace, Aberdeen, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and failing to provide two specimens of breath without reasonable excuse.
Defence agent Paul Barnett said: “He recognises that these are serious offences. He has previously served a sentence for a misuse of drugs matter. Given his background I would ask for his sentence to be deferred.”
Sheriff Christine McCrossan deferred sentence until June 5 for criminal justice social work reports and disqualified him from driving in the interim.
