A man has been accused of stealing more than £1,000 from a pensioner in Aberdeen, as well as facing other charges of doorstep crime in the city.
The 38-year-old appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday in relation to offences whereby vulnerable people in the Torry area were targeted.
A report was received by police that two elderly women had been approached by a man offering to carry out work in their gardens in the Girdleness Road area last Friday.
In one case, one of the women reported that a low four-figure sum of money had been taken from her home.
The man has also been charged in connection with similar incidents in the Tullos Place and Mansefield Road areas.
Detective Sergeant John Snedden said: “I would like to thank members of the public for all information provided in connection with this investigation.”
He added: “I would like to remind the public once again to be vigilant of unexpected callers offering services and goods for sale on your doorstep.
“I would also ask that you keep an eye out for older or more vulnerable neighbours, friends or family to ensure they are careful about who they speak to or let into their home.
“Only let callers in if they have an appointment and once you have confirmed they are genuine.
“Do not feel pressured into making on-the-spot decisions about goods and services offered for sale and take your time to check credentials to satisfy yourself that they are a legitimate business with a good reputation.
