Police and forensic officers search for clues following Brian McKandie's death

A memorial service for a murdered pensioner will take place on April 13 in Auchterless Parish Church at 11am.

Brian McKandie, 67, was found dead on March 12 in his rural home a few miles north of Rothienorman after he was violently killed with a heavy weapon.

A memorial service for the pensioner will take place on April 13 in Auchterless Parish Church at 11am, with all friends respectfully invited.

Mr McKandie’s family – including his brother William and sister Margaret – have requested family flowers only, however donations to Cancer Research may be made in lieu of floral tributes.

A well-known face around the community, Mr McKandie was self-employed as a mechanic and handyman, and was frequently seen in his driveway fixing up cars, washing machines and other items.

He was last seen alive on March 11 at his local bank in Turriff, where he was spotted on CCTV footage in the afternoon.

On the way home from the bank, the pensioner visited a garage which had links to his business, and then spoke to a friend before heading off to his bungalow.

Less than 24 hours later, he was found dead.

Police have carried out extensive searches and inquiries around Rothienorman and beyond, stopping hundreds of motorists and knocking on doors to determine what happened to Mr McKandie.

Nobody has been charged in relation to the murder so far, but police are still keen to speak to two pairs of men who were seen outside his property at various points on March 11.

Anyone with information about the murder of Mr McKandie is urged to phone the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.
