A north politician has urged improvement works at an A9 blackspot to be included in the upcoming Scottish Government budget.

Labour MSP Rhoda Grant has urged for a commitment to be given for the planned work at Berriedale Braes on the Inverness to Thurso road.

Transport Scotland have developed plans to uprgade the notorious stretch of the road.

But the plans are subject to a public inquiry following an objection from a local landowner.

The inquiry is due to be held early in the new year.

Both the Caithness Transport Forum and Caithness Chamber of Commerce have called for the scheme to be included in the government’s budget for the upcoming year.

Mrs Grant said: “Caithness has waited too long for a solution to Berriedale Braes.

“With major problems and expense on repairing the Forth Road Bridge, I am anxious that other schemes, such as Berriedale Braes, receive their fair share of funding from the government pot.

“It would be a disastrous for Caithness and its regeneration if the scheme was further delayed either due to lack of money or a public local inquiry.”
