A convoy system will be in place on a stretch of the A9 south of Inverness for 12 nights from tonight.

Works are to begin on the Perth to Inverness road, south of Daviot at the Fort Augustus junction, at 7pm.

They will continue between 7pm and 6am each night until Saturday November 26 – with no works taking place on Friday or Saturday night.

During working hours, the northbound carriageway will be down to one lane and a 10mph convoy system will be in place.

The central crossover to the Fort Augustus junction will be closed to A9 southbound traffic for the duration of the works. Instead there will be a signed diversion route taking drivers northbound to the Milton of Leys junction and back down the A9 southbound.

The convoy will be removed outwith working hours but a temporary speed restriction of 50mph and a lane closure will remain in place.

Teams will carry out surfacing improvements on the 1,700ft stretch of road to improve safety for users.

Eddie Ross, Bear Scotland’s north west representative, said: “This surfacing project on the A9 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“The works are essential for ensuring the safety of road workers and motorists. Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these projects.”
