On Friday, August 19, little Nastia arrived back in our lives for a month of fun, laughter, fresh air and fresh food to boost her fragile immune system – which has been scarred by the effects of radiation.
These four weeks have been the most amazing, emotional, humbling and rewarding experience .
Eight-year-old Anastasia has touched our hearts in a huge way, not as an addition to our family but as part of our family.
Her confidence and sense of fun have been so infectious , and our home will be empty and quiet tonight.
Equally humbling has been the response of the people and businesses of Moray.
The charity has been overwhelmed by the support and donations received from so many, which has been such a boost to these little children.
They have opened their doors and hearts to these wonderful children and the memories will stay with them.
Today will be a sad day for me and my wife Joan, and all the host families.
But the children leave in the knowledge that they are dearly loved and will be back to see us again next year .
One of my funniest moments was the day I attended a full council meeting still wearing the pink glitter nail varnish Anastasia had applied the night before.
