A north-east lifeboat station has benefited from a second birthday donation in as many months.
The RNLI volunteers in Fraserburgh have received £570 for their coffers courtesy of two local friends who held a joint 60th birthday party in aid of the station.
Willie Summers and James Cameron celebrated their birthdays in style at the town’s RAF club last month and told their guests to make donations to the RNLI in lieu of gifts.
Now the pair have presented the donation to Fraserburgh’s lifeboat coxswain Vic Sutherland.
Mr Sutherland said: “We really appreciate Willie and James thinking about us when they were celebrating their birthdays.
“It’s a tremendous amount and it was a fantastic gesture. On behalf of everyone at RNLI Fraserburgh I’d like to thank Willie and James and all their friends for the donation.
“All the money raised will help us save lives at sea.”
Mr Summers, a trawlerman aboard the Christina S, said he and Mr Cameron chose the lifeboat because they both work at sea.
The donation follows a similar act of kindness last month when another Fraserburgh man asked party guests for donations instead of material gifts.
Graham Duthie lives near the port’s RNLI branch and wanted to help the hard-working volunteers he sees every day.
When he celebrated his 50th birthday at the town’s leisure centre with his family and friends, Mr Duthie raised more than £1,000 for Mr Sutherland’s team.
He said: “Everyone in Fraserburgh respects and admires the work that the lifeboat does and the place the lifeboat has in the community.
“So with my 50th approaching I decided to hold a party and thought it would be a good idea to raise funds for the lifeboat.”
The Fraserburgh station is now under new leadership after town councillor Hamish Partridge took over as operations manager.
Mr Partridge replaces Victor Sutherland sen and his brother Albert who have served with the RNLI since the 1960s.
