An underwater robot will probe the wreck of the cargo ship that capsized and sank earlier this month in the Pentland Firth.
Marine accident investigators will use the remote operated vehicle (ROV) to examine the remains of the Cemfjord, which was carrying cement, when it ended up on the sea floor.
The bodies of the men who were on board the vessel when it sank – one Filipino man and seven Polish nationals – have not been found.
It is understood the ROV will be sent down to survey the outside of the Cemfjord to determine the cause of the ship’s demise – if the severe weather that has been rolling across Scotland lets up this weekend.
The device will not be searching for or recovering the bodies of the crew.
A memorial service will be held in Wick this Sunday for those who died in the sinking of the Cemfjord.
