Forres Mechanics: Well, that was rather disappointing…

Forres Mechanics

Forres made the trip to Turriff on Saturday 8th August in confident mood following recent results but oh dear, what a shambles of an afternoon it turned out to be.

The Turriff pitch looked its best for many a year with lots of green grass on it instead of the usual sparsely grassed sand pit that we all know.

I was lucky enough to get a few words with manger Charlie Rowley prior to kick-off and he was confident that we would at least be able to take something out of the game, however he did indicate that we were without injured pair Stuart Soane and Dachi Khutsishvili, which was a blow.

The game was barely 30 seconds old when Turriff scored the opener, easing through the Forres defence like a hot knife through butter and giving no protection to goalkeeper Stuart Knight.

Charlie’s pre-match confidence obviously didn’t rub off onto the Forres players as this was only the start of things to come as we were over ran by a rampant Turriff side who were dominant in every area of the pitch.

The Forres players just didn’t seem to show up today and the match was as good as over by half-time with us down 3-0 by then but it could have been a lot more if it wasn’t for some fine saves from Knight.

The only good thing worthy of mention was a curling Liam Baxter shot which was tipped onto the post.

There was as much fight in the Forres team today as there had been in the Australian team in the Ashes cricket match which I watched on TV in the morning, totally gutless.

By full-time the score-line was 5-0 to Turriff and that made for a long journey home, very disappointed.
