Caley Thistle manager John Hughes believes Scottish football is better off with Hearts in the top flight. Yet the former Hibs player and manager will be doing his old Edinburgh rivals no favours when he takes to the dugout for the first time with Inverness at Tynecastle today.
Hearts are lodged at the bottom of the league after incurring a 15-point penalty for going into administration and they are also beset by injuries. Everything points to an away win but Leith native Hughes belives the Jambos enhance the Premiership.
He said: “For Scottish football to be vibrant we need all the big clubs in the top flight. To see the demise of Hearts is not great for Scottish football.”
Hughes won’t be making drastic alterations to the Inverness team today.
He added: “Billy McKay, Nick Ross, Marley Watkins and Aaron Doran have to express themselves. I will never tactically tie them down. They have to be free spirits.”
