Storm troopers arrive for last year's Granite City Comic Con
Storm troopers arrive for last year's Granite City Comic Con

Thousands of comic fans are expected to flock to the Granite City Comic Con this weekend.

Organisers were thrilled at the success of last year’s inaugural event, where 3,000 people wearing a host of pop culture costumes turned out.

They vowed to make this year’s bigger and better, and have moved to a larger venue at the Hilton Treetops.

Attendees will enjoy a variety of special guests, art and writing workshops and cosplay during the event

There will also be plenty of comic book merchandise on sale for fans to snap up.

Guests this year include Judge Dredd creator John Wagner to actors such as Garrick Hagon, who played Biggs Darklighter and Robert Llewellyn, of Red Dwarf.

Last year’s favourites Paul Blake, who played Greedo in Star Wars, and Shane Rimmer, of Thunderbirds and James Bond fame, will also make a return.

Co-organiser and comic creator Chris Robertson said: “This year’s event is shaping up to be great – we’re really pleased with the calibre of guests and vendors we’ve managed to attract after the success of 2015.

“Above all we want to present a family-friendly opportunity to enjoy all things geeky.”

The convention will once again raise vital funds for Clan Cancer Support.

Along with the main event on Saturday and Sunday, there will also be a number of tie in events on Friday and Monday that will offer comic workshops, table-top gaming and other entertainment.

Despite pre-sale tickets being sold out, limited entry will be available on Saturday and Sunday after noon. Fore more information visit www.granitecitycomiccon.co.uk
