Police closed off an area of Aberdeen city centre today after a suspicious bag was discovered near a shopping centre.
Officers cordoned off a section of George Street near John Lewis after the package was discovered at around 12pm.
Inquiries were carried out at the scene before the force could determine there was no risk to the public.
It was the second time in less than 24 hours that police in the north had been forced to cordon off streets for a suspicious package.
Officers locked down a stretch of the A90 last night after being forced to call in the bomb squad during a raid at a suspected cannabis farm.
The package was discovered at a residential address in the Spital area of Caithness shortly after 10pm and police later launched a 100 metre cordon around the property.
Officers confirmed this morning that a 55-year-old man had been arrested and charged in relation to drug offences.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said of the George Street incident: “An unattended bag was reported.
“Police were called to reports of an unattended bag and a small cordon was put in place while inquiries were ongoing.
“It was found to not be anything suspicious.”
