Two teenage boys have been charged in connection with the alleged theft of a vehicle from the Garthdee area of Aberdeen.

Officers received a report that a white Volvo V40 had been taken from outside a property at Garthdee Farm Gardens overnight between January 3 and January 4. The car was later recovered in the city beside Deeside Railway Line.

A 14-year-old and a 15-year-old were subsequently traced and have been charged in connection. A report will be sent to the Youth Justice Management Unit given their age.

Detective Constable Ailsa McKain, who led inquiries, said: “I would like to thank those who assisted with this inquiry, in particular the member of public who contacted police when they spotted the vehicle in question.”

She added: “Tackling acquisitive, opportunistic crimes is a priority for North East Division. We can all play our part in ensuring our vehicles are locked and secure in the first instance and that security measures are in place to deter thieves, however when the worst does happen we use every tactic available to us to bring those responsible to court.

“Anyone who sees suspicious people, vehicles or activity where they live should contact Police on 101, 999 if it is an emergency, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 to remain anonymous.”
