A set of Harry Potter books signed by JK Rowling were among the items up for grabs at a charity auction earlier this month.

Bosses at Aberdeen Journals decided to auction off an array of items – including whisky, framed paintings, televisions and even North Sea oil samples – as the old Lang Stracht offices were emptied for the move to Marischal Square.

Money raised at the event was split between Sue Ryder’s Dee View Court and Charlie House.

In total, £1697.50 was raised for the two causes.

Sue Ryder is currently trying to raise £3.9million to expand its neurological care centre in the Kincorth area of Aberdeen.

Emma Leiper-Finlayson, capital appeal manager at Sue Ryder, said: “It’s thanks to the continued commitment and support of those like Aberdeen Journals that we’ve reached the milestone £2.3million of our £3.9million fundraising target.”

And Lynn Batham, fundraising team lead at Charlie House, said: “This generous donation will go on to support babies, children and young people with complex disabilities and life-limiting conditions and their families in the north-east of Scotland.”

Neil Simpson, business development manager and asset valuer at Thainstone Specialist Auctions – who donated their time for free – said: “It was fun and it was great to be part of an event that raised some money for two well-known charities.”
