Maggie’s Aberdeen seeks twelve models for its inaugural 2020 charity calendar

The Maggie's centre in Aberdeen are looking for 12 volunteers to become models for their 2020 calendar.
The Maggie's centre in Aberdeen are looking for 12 volunteers to become models for their 2020 calendar.

A north-east cancer charity has appealed for volunteers to come forward to be models for its first ever fundraising calendar.

A dozen people with stories to tell about Maggie’s therapy centre in Aberdeen are being sought to become pin-ups to raise money for the Foresterhill facilty.

This will be the first time the cancer charity has produced a calendar and it intends to use the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the eclectic mix of visitors who use the walk-in centre.

Renowned Aberdeenshire photographer Andy Hall has offered to help the charity and will be taking pictures of both the centre and the 12 people who will feature.

Fundraising manager for Maggie’s centre, Jules Goodwin, said she was “thrilled” to announce the calendar launch.

“We want to raise awareness of what we do,” she said.

“It was one of our visitors who prompted us to do something and suggested we focus on the centre itself.

“We really want to show off the centre’s architecture as it is part of the solution to patient’s well-being.”

She added: “We want anyone who has either been a patient, a supporter or a volunteer to come forward to give their story about how the centre has helped them – anyone at all with a connection to Maggie’s Aberdeen.

“You can also nominate someone who you think perhaps might be reluctant to come forward themselves.

“They don’t need to worry though – they will be fully clothed – the focus will be more on the centre and the stories surrounding it that we want to tell.”

The twelve lucky models will have their photograph taken by Andy Hall in the Duthie Park Winter Gardens on July 14.

They will then feature in the Maggie’s 2020 calendar as well as in social media posts throughout the year for the charity.

People have until June 28 to make nominations or to volunteer to take part. All relevant applicants will be shortlisted, with 12 will then chosen at random.

If you are interested or would like to nominate someone, contact the fundraising team by emailing aberdeenfundraising@maggiescentres.org, calling 01224 612914 or popping in for a chat.
