A heartbroken Stonehaven family are preparing to stage a rock concert in honour of a mother-of-three who died from cancer.

Beautician Julie Forbes was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer in 2014.

But now, six months after her death in April, her husband and three sons are making plans to commemorate her memory by holding Rock against Myeloma.

They will host the concert on November 9 to raise money for the charity Myeloma UK and pay tribute to their mother, wife, daughter and sister.

The concert will feature four local bands, with eldest son Michael performing as guitarist and singer for the Easy Peelers.

He said: “She always had a door open for our friends. She enjoyed having people over and always put us first.

“All my friends are performing in each of the bands, and it’s great to see all of the community come together in memory of mum and raise money for such a good cause.”

The proceeds from the event will be given to an organisation which is dedicated to finding a cure and ensuring those who suffer from the disease receive the best care.

The disease accounts for about 15% of blood cancers with 17,500 people across the UK suffering from the condition, which is currently incurable.

Mr Forbes has recruited the musical talents of The Shackles, The New Routines, Easy Peelers and Manuka Honey to perform at Stonehaven Town Hall.

He has already sold more than 100 tickets and is hoping for at least 250 more to join the family at the special gathering.

He added: “It was Dad’s idea to hold a concert, me and my brothers get our love of music from him and mum and we thought it would be a great way to honour her and raise some money.

“The event is a great opportunity for the community to come together and raise money for an illness that still has no cure.”

Tickets can be purchased from Michael Forbes on 07513 907714 or by dropping into Ma Simpsons music shop on 26B Evan St in Stonehaven AB39 2ET .
