Changes to the way pre-school children receive their immunisations will be rolled out across Aberdeen today.

Previously, appointments would be carried out at individual GP practices across the city.

But they will now only be offered at six locations spread throughout the area.

The changes had been planned by Aberdeen City Health and Social Care Partnership (ACHSCP) for some time, but it said implementing the streamlined service was “very appropriate” to help with social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In the north, immunisations will be available at Bridge of Don Clinic on Cairnfold Road and Health Hoose at the Hub, Manor Avenue.

The Carden and Old Aberdeen medical practices, on Carden Place and Sunnybank Road respectively, will be used in the central third of the city.

Clinics on Whinhill Road and Oscar Road in Torry will also be used.

Any children under the age of five who have an appointment arranged over the coming weeks will now have to visit one of these to receive their immunisations. Only one parent or guardian is asked to accompany them.

ACHSCP says further details will be issued via letter.

Nursing service manager Lisa Lawrie said: “Childhood immunisations continue to be a very high priority.

“We would encourage parents to attend their appointment to protect their children against serious diseases. Immunisations are one of the important reasons to leave home.

“Parents should please ensure that they and all members of their household are symptom-free of Covid-19 before attending immunisation appointments.

“Parents should also follow the self-isolating guidelines and re-schedule their appointment if they have developed symptoms.”
