Granite Harbour – the new BBC crime drama set in Aberdeen – kicks off tonight. Here’s everything you need to know about the series.

What is Granite Harbour about?

The story centres on Lance Corporal Davis Lindo who arrives in Aberdeen as a new recruit to Police Scotland after serving in the Royal Military Police in Jamaica. Not only does he have to find his feet in a city a world away from what he knows, he is thrown in at the deep end of a murder probe into the death of one of the most recognisable figures in the oil industry.

How much of Aberdeen features in Granite Harbour?

Most of the exterior shots were filmed in and around the city centre. Viewers will be able to spot locations such as the Castlegate, Broad Street, the leopard sculpture at Marischal Square, North Silver Street, Provost Skene’s House and even Ruby House standing in for the north-east headquarters of Police Scotland. While the Fittie Bar was transformed to “The Bodach Stone” for some shots, the exterior of The Globe Inn stars as itself – and a place where the cops gather for a drink.

Who stars in Granite Harbour?

Romario Simpson, a rising star best known for his roles in Small Axe and Noughts And Crosses, plays Davis Lindo, the trainee detective who is determined to bring a murderer to justice and doesn’t always follow the rules.

Hannah Donaldson, is DCI Tara ‘Bart’ Bartlett, who is Lindo’s mentor and partner. Bart is a street-wise and ambitious cop who can get frustrated by her new colleague’s headstrong attitude. Hannah is no stranger to crime dramas having been in shows such as Rebus and Shetland.

Dawn Steele, most recently seen in Holby City, plays DCI Cora Macmillan, Lindo and Bart’s no-nonsense and sometimes grumpy boss. She tries to reign in Lindo’s impulsive behaviour while supporting her team in their search for the killer.
