Bypass work to disrupt journeys at the weekend

Motorists have been warned of disruption this weekend due to continuing work on the Aberdeen bypass.

The A93 North Deeside road is expected to close west of its junction with the B979 Milltimber Brae, from about 8pm on Friday until 6am on Monday, as it undergoes reconstruction as part of the AWPR/Balmedie to Tipperty project.

Transport Scotland yesterday reassured drivers that diversions put in place will be sign-posted.

To gain access west of the A93 closure from the B979 Milltimber Brae, road users should turn right along the A93 North Deeside Road and then travel via the A93 Great Western Road, Springfield Road, B9119 Queen’s Road, A944 Skene Road, B9119 Tarland Road, the B979 Peterculter-Kirkton of Skene and the B979 Malcolm Road.

At that point, they can rejoin the A93 west of the closure, while the reverse journey will be required for those wishing to reach the B979 Milltimber Brae from west of the closure.

Local access will be maintained for businesses and residents via the west side of the works, and buses and emergency vehicles will be escorted through the site over the weekend.

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said the work had been timed to reduce inconvenience.

Meanwhile, people in Stonehaven have been warned their water supply could be disrupted for eight weeks as a result of the bypass work.

Scottish Water cautioned residents that problems could arise because of work to divert a water main at the Stonehaven junction from Monday, August 28.
