The mother of an Aberdeen man found with mysterious head injuries after a Christmas night out has said they were no further forward in finding out what happened to him.
Michelle Houghton’s son Greg was put in an induced coma after he was found lying on the ground covered in blood outside the Breadmaker Cafe on Rosemount Viaduct.
The 25-year-old had been enjoying the festivities on a work night out in the city centre and was last seen by his colleagues leaving a nightclub on Chapel Street at about 2:30am on Saturday.
But six hours later he was seen wandering about “dazed and confused” trying to flag down passing motorists before seeking help in the nearby bakery.
However, last night his mum said he was doing “much better” and that she’d had the best present ever when he woke from the coma and was able to give her a cuddle.
She added that they still weren’t sure what had happened to him or when he would be allowed to come home.
In a social media post she explained that they had spent the last few days visiting him in hospital and said: “There are presents under the tree with our names on – but the bosie I got from Greg at the hospital tonight is the best one of the lot – priceless.”
Mr Houghton was taken to Aberdeen Royal infirmary for treatment after he was found injured on Saturday morning at about 8:30am. Doctors placed him in an induced coma due to the seriousness of his injuries and he woke up on Christmas Eve.
A police spokesman last night said it was still “unclear” how Mr Houghton had sustained his injuries and asked anyone who had seen him after leaving the nightclub to help them piece together what had happened.
He said: “Inquiries reveal that Mr Houghton had approached motorists on Rosemount Viaduct, near the junction with Skene Street, just prior to attending at the shop premises around 8:30am and officers would like to speak with these people.”
Mr Houghton is described as being around 5ft 11in tall, of average build, with a full beard. He was wearing a red checked shirt and blue jeans at the time of the incident. Anyone with information is urged to phone the Police on 101.
