Brave’s eclectic line-up features men who are at every stage of the fight against cancer.
And for somebody such as David Thomson, the idea of taking to the catwalk is something completely new – yet he is doing it with the spring in his step of somebody who has been living cancer-free for 10 years.
Mr Thomson, from Westhill, said: “I am honoured to be selected for Brave and the opportunity to support fundraising for Friends of Anchor.
“I have followed the progress of the Anchor Unit from its inception and the work done there is incredible.
“It is a fantastic initiative born out of necessity to provide the best possible care.
“I will be outside my comfort zone on a catwalk, but I am up to the challenge and I am looking forward to getting started.”
Mr Thomson was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and secondary liver cancer at the age of 59, but he made a full recovery and he will be 70 by the time he makes his modelling debut on May 11.
He will spend the coming weeks getting to know his fellow models during rehearsals, clothes fittings and an icebreaker dinner.
He added: “I’m looking forward to the interaction with other people and the rest of the models – hearing their stories and how they coped, and the impact it had on their lives.
“I’m also looking forward to sharing my own experience. I think it’s really important to retain a positive outlook – there will be low times and there will be hard times.
“But for anyone in the area who is facing a cancer diagnosis, you will be treated in a fantastic facility by experts in their field.
“Great advances in treatment and drugs, along with an early diagnosis, are absolutely fundamental, and that is why the ANCHOR Unit is so important.”
