Scores of surfers will descend upon the north-east’s coast next month as part of a nationwide clean-up initiative.
As many as 20,000 people are expected to pitch-in and pick up rubbish at 550 beaches across the UK, making it the largest-ever campaign of its kind.
It is hoped that the Surfers Against Sewage project will remove 30,000 tonnes of waste from the shoreline.
Volunteers are being asked to pay particular attention to “avoidable plastics” such as bottles, coffee cups, straws and bags.
Clean-ups have been organised for Aberdeen beach at noon on April 7 and St Cyrus beach at 3pm on April 14.
Timings for a Stonehaven event are currently being confirmed.
