Firefighters were called out to rescue a kitten from the dashboard of a car in the city.
Lisa Duncan, 34, had just picked up the eight-week-old kitten, a 16th birthday present for her daughter Zoe, when it jumped out of a box in her car and disappeared through a small gap next to the brake pedal.
After searching in the dark for an hour, the heartbroken driver gave up and, assuming the cat had managed to get to freedom under the car, drove home to Northfield.
But when she arrived and spotted a flash of white fur under the dashboard in the early hours of Sunday morning, she realised the kitten was still there.
Ms Duncan said: “They had to take off all the plastics. The fireman managed to get a hold of her and take her out and everybody was cheering.
“I would just say thank you very much because I honestly didn’t think it was going to be a good outcome.”
After her adventure the kitten, who was a little shaken up, has been given an appropriate name – Heidi.
Lisa said: “She’s absolutely fine.”
