Hundreds of miniatures fans had huge amounts of fun with some tiny exhibits this weekend at Aberdeen’s annual charity scale model show.
More than 300 people visited the Aberdeen Modellers Society’s exhibition at the Hilton Treetops hotel on Saturday to see all manner of displays, from Second World War aircraft to futuristic sci-fi spaceships.
Now in its second year, the event attracted visitors from all across Scotland as well as attendees from modelling clubs and traders from even further afield.
The family-friendly event raised cash for the north-east cancer charity Clan, as well as the Morayvia science and technology centre in Kinloss.
This year, some of the event’s younger attendees were invited to “make and take” with experts in the hobby.
The children were invited to work together with their mums and dads – and with some assistance from Aberdeen Modellers Society members – to build their very own models of aeroplanes, tanks and more to bring home with them, in the hope of inspiring an interest in the world of scale models.
Club chairman George Scott, who has been with the club for almost 20 years, said the money raised for the charitable causes was still being counted but hailed the event as another great success.
He said: “The society has been going for about 30 years now and it’s fantastic to share our love of the hobby with a wider audience through our annual show.
“Last year was our first and this year we’ve taken in a much bigger haul of people, so we are very pleased indeed.
“We’ve learned a lot of lessons since our first show.
“Being modelling geeks, we had a really good turnout for competition with more than 120 entries and quite a bit of variety this time.
“We had Lego stands, work from some ladies that do wood etching and a lot of other different things on the go.
“It’s all about trying to get younger people interested in the hobby and away from their laptops and tablets. That’s often very difficult but we love getting young people involved.
“We’re already planning next year’s event. We can’t wait to expand the show to make it even bigger and better.”
The society meets on the second Tuesday of every month at the Gordon Highlanders Museum in Aberdeen, from 7-9.30pm.
New members are always welcome.
