Aberdeen scientist Anne Glover has joined the board of Scottish Enterprise.
Deputy First Minister John Swinney announced Prof Glover’s appointment along with that of Alison McGregor, HSBC’s Scottish chief executive, and Gavin Nicol, Weir Group director of operations.
Prof Glover, who holds the chair in molecular and cell biology at Aberdeen University, was chief scientific advisor for Scotland and the first chief scientific advisor to the president of the European Commission, a post that was scrapped with the end of the term of Jose Manuel Barroso.
Mr Swinney said: “I am delighted to see Professor Anne Glover, Alison McGregor and Gavin Nicol join the board of Scottish Enterprise. The quality of candidates was very high, which is a reflection of the leaders our vibrant business community attracts.
“Agencies like Scottish Enterprise are vital to Scotland’s continued economic growth. They help attract new business and inward investment to Scotland while supporting our companies competing in a global environment.
“These new appointments will help this important work continue and compliment the broad range of board members already working at Scotland Enterprise.”
The three-year appointment attracts a remuneration of £419 a day for a commitment of around two and a half days a month.
Ms McGregor has indicated she does not want the payment.
