Two friends from Aberdeen will take part in a gruelling day of physical activities this weekend to raise funds for charity.
Richard Core and Rory Jamieson will travel to Loch Tay in the Highlands to take part in the 16th annual Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon.
The event, taking place at Loch Tay, consists of swimming, running, kayaking and cycling – before participants are challenged to chop a watermelon in half with a sword once they get to the finish line.
More than 250 people are expected to take part, and it is hoped around £250,000 will be raised for Mercy Corps and Mary’s Meals.
Mr Core revealed the pair signed up in an attempt to get back the fitness of their teenage years.
He said: “Rory and I signed up to the quad in an attempt to curb some of the bad habits we picked up at university.
“We used to be quite fit so we decided to get some of that back.
“We called ourselves the Fat Stags because we’re mildly athletic people in bad shape – although hopefully quad training has changed that.
“Both Mary’s Meals and Mercy Corps are very worthwhile charities so the more money we can raise for them, the better.”
He added: “We’ve been putting in the training so we’re hopeful that we’ll do OK.
“We’re probably most nervous about the swim.
“We practised the swim stage in April and it was snowing around Loch Tay.
“That particular training session didn’t last long.”
