Literature lovers in Aberdeenshire should get ready to bookmark their diaries for a whole week of exciting activities next month as libraries throughout the region prepare for Book Week Scotland.

The annual celebration of reading will take place from November 18 to 23 in libraries, sports centres and other venues throughout the north-east.

The theme for this year’s national event is “Blether” and a wide range of authors have been lined up for a series of talks in Aberdeenshire.

Included in the programme will be appearances by Paul Murton, from BBC One’s Grand Tours of Scotland, who will share his knowledge of the history, folklore and traditions of places like Orkney and Shetland with audiences at the Acorn Centre in Inverurie.

Colin MacLachlan, a former SAS member and star of Channel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins will be talking about mental resilience and high-profile SAS missions at the Banchory British Legion.

Every year, the national celebration seeks to bring together authors and readers and inspire communities to discover the joy of books, or even read something a little bit different.

The majority of the Book Week Scotland events are free and made possible due to funding from the Scottish Book Trust.
