Hundreds of pipers and drummers are expected to attend an Aberdeenshire town’s Scottish music competition this weekend.
The North of Scotland Pipe Band Competition in Banchory is returning tomorrow, following the success of last year’s inaugural event.
A total of 22 bands will participate in the festival, which takes place at King George V Park.
North-east pipe bands will compete with those making the journey from across the country, including grade-one groups, Scottish Power and Police Scotland Fife.
The day’s proceedings will start with the grade-four section competition, followed by contests between grades three, two and one bands.
During the lunch breaks, five drum majors will be marked on their attire before the marching and flourish events commence.
Newly-elected Conservative MSP Alexander Burnett, chieftain for the day, will be piped into the event by the Banchory Pipe Band.
Last year’s event was the first piping competition in Banchory for 30 years.
Chairman of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association’s north of Scotland branch, Graham Gauld, said: “I’m delighted to see top bands coming to Banchory for this local contest.
“Many of the bands will see the Banchory competition as a warm-up for the first of five major championships with the British championship falling on the following Saturday.”
Awards presentations will take place at about 5pm.
Gates open at 10am, whilst events will kick off at 10.30am. Tickets cost £5 or £2.50 for under-12s.
Under-fives will get in free and car parking is also complimentary.
