A Moray student has proved the point that having a good work experience placement can lead to a great job.
Annabelle Grant, 21, from Keith, has secured a job in finance after graduating with a BA (Hons) Management – with Aberdeen-based Johnston Carmichael Wealth.
She said yesterday she chose Robert Gordon University because of its reputation, adding: “The concept of going to university had always been attractive to me, but I was also drawn to RGU due to its high graduate employment rate.
“Initially, when applying to university, I did not know what I wanted to do in the future. I chose the BA (Hons) Management course as this offered a wide range of potential job options in different industries.”
Talking of her student experience, Miss Grant revealed she had made “life-long” friends.
And she added: “I’m very proud of my achievements, in particular finishing with a 2:1 degree. My time at RGU has been a great experience, leaving me with life-long friends and giving me real opportunities to progress.”
Part of Miss Grant’s course involved a year-long work placement.
She said: “One of the highlights of my time at university was the opportunity to do a placement in my third year with Johnston Carmichael Wealth where I gained valuable skills and experience working within the financial services industry.
“From this placement I was offered a part-time job with the firm during my final year.
“Although continuing my work with them during fourth year was stressful at times, I would not have done it any differently.”
Taking only a week off for a holiday, Miss Grant started her new job in June and is now looking forward to a long career, adding:
“Two years after initially joining, I am enjoying being part of the team more than ever. It has been great seeing Johnston Carmichael Wealth continue to grow, and I hope to continue my employment with the firm for years to come.
“I really enjoyed both my placement and part-time working with the firm and was really pleased to then be offered a full-time Business Support position there after I graduated.”
