Youngsters are being encouraged to pledge good deeds in exchange for a storytelling session as part of the Scottish International Storytelling Festival.

Youngsters are being offered the chance to pledge good deeds for their community and receive a visit from a storyteller.

The Big Scottish Story Ripple has been arranged as part of the 2020 Scottish International Storytelling Festival, and will run from October 12 to the end of November.

School and community groups are being encouraged to apply for a one-hour session – in person or virtually – which will be free as long as they promise to do something nice for local residents in return.

Applications are open until Monday, October 5, with a St Andrew’s Day November 30 deadline for groups completing their chosen task.

National development officer for the Scottish Storytelling Forum, Miriam Morris, said: “This is a great opportunity for schools and community groups to share and connect with stories in their own creative way – engaging with one of Scotland’s traditional art forms via contemporary means while simultaneously giving back to their communities.”

Storyteller Jackie Ross said: “Storytelling is such a wonderful way to bring folk together to share their experiences, their culture, their emotions, especially at this time when everyone needs to feel connected to their neighbours.

“I would urge other groups to take advantage of the community programme to engage a storyteller, for free, to bring your community together to share some tales and do a good deed.”
