The Woodside area of Aberdeen has suffered the highest number of Covid-19 deaths per capita in the north and the north-east, new figures have shown.

A detailed breakdown of coronavirus-related deaths across the region was published by the National Records of Scotland for Scotland (NRS) for the first time last month.

The latest figures, covering all deaths until July 12, were published today.

Woodside, which has one further death in the past month and a total of 18, remains the area with the highest number of coronavirus fatalities per head of population in the north and north-east, followed by Hunter’s Quay in Argyll and Bute, Peterhead Harbour and Torry West.

The map below shows the areas of Grampian and the Highlands and islands where Covid-19 has had the most devastating impact.

Peterhead Harbour has the highest number of overall deaths by area, with 22.

It comes as the latest National Records of Scotland (NRS) data revealed that as of Sunday a total of 4,187 deaths registered in Scotland have been associated with Covid-19 since the start of the outbreak.

That figure is an increase of 117 from last month’s statistics.

A regional breakdown of the figures by health board show there have been 259 deaths in Grampian (an increase of eight in the past month) since the pandemic began.
