Peter Pawlett wants to end Aberdeen career on a high by lifting the Scottish Cup

Peter Pawlett has signed a pre-contract agreement with MK Dons.

Peter Pawlett believes winning the Scottish Cup would be a dream end to his time as an Aberdeen player.

The 26-year-old midfielder has signed a pre-contract agreement with MK Dons and will join the English League One side in the summer.

But he hopes his final act as an Aberdeen player will be as part of the open-top bus parade down Union Street should Derek McInnes’ side defeat Celtic in the final at Hampden on May 27.

He said: “I want to be part of the team that finishes second and wins the Scottish Cup – that send-off would be incredible.

“We want to get second place wrapped up and then we can concentrate on the final.

“To leave with a Scottish Cup medal would be very special for me. I know when I pull on the Aberdeen jersey for the last time, it will be a strange feeling as this is all I have known throughout my career and there is no doubt it will be emotional.

“If I go out with a Scottish Cup medal it will make everything all right.”

While Pawlett is desperate to play a part as Aberdeen chase down their end of season goals, the midfielder is also ready to begin the next chapter of his career south of the border.

He said: “I thought I might get a bit of stick when the move was announced but everyone has been really good with me.

“I am looking forward to it. It is a new challenge and something different for my family. I had my first trial for the Dons when I was about six or seven years old and I have been at the club ever since.

“I have been here every step of the way but I have always wanted to play in England and couldn’t allow the opportunity to pass me by.

“Since it was announced I was leaving everyone has been so nice and I am grateful for everything Aberdeen has done for me.”

Pawlett came on as a second-half substitute during Saturday’s 2-0 loss against St Johnstone and hopes to feature against Hearts this Sunday.

He added: “It would be great to wrap up second on Sunday. Tynecastle is probably my favourite away ground as the atmosphere is always incredible.

“The supporters are so close to the pitch and you always get a bit of abuse which just adds to the atmosphere. It would be perfect to wrap up second spot there.”
