Aberdeen Women co-manager Gavin Beith says his side’s focus is set on winning their first game of the season when they return to Pittodrie.

The Dons play at the stadium on Sunday for just the second time when they host Glasgow Women, with both teams in search of their first win of the season.

Aberdeen Women played their inaugural match at Pittodrie against Rangers in March.

Beith’s side currently sit second-bottom of SWPL 1 with one point, while Glasgow Women sit rock bottom having lost all their games thus far.

And while the Dons co-manager appreciates it’s an important occasion, he says his side’s main priority is to pick up their first win of the campaign.

Beith said: “It’s always a great occasion when we get to play at the stadium, obviously last year against Rangers was fantastic.

“The crowd and the whole atmosphere was absolutely fantastic, so we hope it’ll be the same again, albeit it was later in the season against Rangers and we had more points on the board.

“There’s maybe more pressure this time because we know it’s a bottom-of-the-table clash that we never thought we’d be in – it’s certainly something we don’t want to be in.

“The occasion will be good a day, but it’ll be an even better day if we get the win and get the three points we desperately need.”

Pittodrie win would help ignite Aberdeen’s season

Beith hopes that a victory against Glasgow Women would help kickstart Aberdeen’s season, with a run of winnable games coming up after the Pittodrie clash.

He added: “It’s huge in terms of kickstarting our season. I’m pretty sure it’ll feel like a cup final because they know they have an opportunity to get off the bottom of the table.

“We have an opportunity not to distance ourselves from Glasgow – because that’s not how we should be thinking – but it’s a chance to get closer to the teams above us.

“It’s a massive game at Pittodrie, but every game when you’re on a bad run is massive because you’re always looking for the next win.

“Although we haven’t picked up the points, performances in large spells have been really good, so we know we’re not far off.

“But we’ve been saying that for a long time now and we know we can’t keep saying the same thing – we need to actually see it through and get the points on the board.

“We’re very confident that will start on Sunday, but we need to make sure we carry that into the rest of the season.”

Aberdeen Women return to Pittodrie on Sunday afternoon.

In their homecoming match earlier this year, Aberdeen were well supported as 1,894 fans turned out for the clash at Pittodrie.

Beith says playing at the club stadium again is a great opportunity for the women’s team to perform in front of an even bigger support.

He said: “It’s a chance for fans of the club and the women’s game, in general, to come along and see what we’re all about.

“They certainly play a big part. We’ve had it before and you feed off that, especially if you can get them into the game and you can score goals.

“It’ll be huge and I’m confident that the girls will put on a good performance for the fans – and I know they’re all looking forward to doing it.”
