SPONSORED: Aberdeen salon launches home hair colouring kits

An Aberdeen hair salon is offering at-home colour kits to give clients a boost.

While temporarily closed due to coronavirus, Komao Hair Design in Bucksburn is getting creative and offering a new lockdown-friendly service to regular customers.

“Having a business during this time, we’ve really got to start thinking out the box on how we can accommodate clients,” says Faye Brandie, owner and creative director at Komao Hair Design.

“The biggest problem for us as hairdressers at the moment is hair colour. We’ve had a few customers asking us about hair dye boxes.”

The hair dye you can pick up from shops might seem like a quick fix, but this is not always the case. “They always come out darker than what the picture looks, they can damage the hair and often people don’t how to apply it – there’s no real guidelines on how to put the colour on,” explains Faye.

Plus, once your hair has been dyed darker, lifting it can prove costly and time-consuming.

So, in a bid to keep her clients from resorting to box dyes, Faye has come up with a creative solution – professional at-home hair dye kits, delivered to your door.

Colour through the Corona

Named ‘Colour through the Corona’, this kit costs just £40 and has everything you need to refresh your colour at home.

It includes:

  • Your unique colour.
  • Application tools (a tint bowl, brush and gloves).
  • A cape and colour removing wipe.
  • A how-to video (Faye dyed her own hair and filmed it step-by-step to create this).
  • A lock-in conditioner as standard, with optional styling products, shampoo and conditioner available on request.

However, safety comes first, which is why Komao’s home hair dye kits are only available for regular clients who’ve been patch tested, in case of allergic reactions.

Customers who order one of these new kits will also receive a disclaimer to sign.

Although not a perfect replacement for heading into the salon for a full professional colour, these kits have already proven to be great pick-me-ups for clients. They can help to cover roots or greys, freshening up your hair to tide you over until Komao can re-open.

A happy customer with their Komao Hair Design delivery.

Supporting Komao

With four team members furloughed and one on maternity leave, Faye is working hard to put together ‘Colour through the Corona’ packages and keep the salon ticking over.

“The effect has been really good for our salon and clients, and also for other salons who have reached out to ask how we’re doing it,” says Faye, who has been happy to offer advice to other salon owners.

And she’s also taken this opportunity to rejuvenate the salon, too.

“We’re doing a refurb at the moment and putting social distancing measures in place, so we’re preparing the salon for that,” explains Faye.

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming back our regular clients and new clients too, once we’re open again.”

In the meantime, follow Komao Hair Design on Facebook or Instagram for the latest updates. You can also pop Faye a message or email on komaohairdesign@gmail.com to order a ‘Colour through the Corona’ package.
