Community still waiting for A90 roundabout improvements 15 months later

A north-east community is still waiting for improvements to a busy commuter route – 15 months after they were promised.

Bear Scotland assured townsfolk last year that the “eyesore” Invernettie roundabout on the A90 into Peterhead would be improved.

Locals had raised complaints that the road gave the wrong impression of the growing Buchan town.

Now they have been joined by Councillor Tom Malone who has branded the structure “an absolute disgrace”.

The roundabout is a central part of the long-term vision of the port, to attract businesses and visitors to Peterhead through the “Buchan Gateway”.

Planning proposals for a hotel and restaurant off the roundabout have already been lodged with Aberdeenshire Council.

Mr Malone now wants road chiefs to redesign the roundabout and begin a landscaping regime to plant geraniums.

He said: “I think I have given them more than enough time to carry out the works, and it’s a disgrace that nothing has been done.

“I have gone through all the proper routes to get this done, but it appears they don’t seem to care.

“This is one of the main entry points to the town and it’s an absolute eyesore.

“It’s part of the Buchan Gateway – so surely it should be a welcoming sight, not the mess it is.”

A spokesman for Bear said updates will be provided to the councillor as progress continues to be made.

“We are finalising the details of our proposals to improve the landscaping at the roundabout, and our landscape manager

will provide Councillor Malone with an update on timescales for these works to be completed,” he added.

The roads body had previously said that confusion over the design of the roundabout had resulted in the delay.
