A north-east student has admitted to causing more than £6,000 worth of damage to vehicles after vandalising them while drunk.
Anthony Szolt went to a party at the Hillhead Halls of residence and believed his drinking was under control.
However, when he drank out of a communal punchbowl, he became far more intoxicated.
After leaving the party, he entered the car park of the Lord Hays Court in Aberdeen city centre and began vandalising three vehicles parked there.
Nearby residents were awoken by him shouting and damaging the cars by striking mirrors and punching them.
Police were called and saw the 21-year-old continuing to strike at one.
Szolt, of King Street, confessed to the offence – which happened on November 12 last year – during an appearance in Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Fiscal depute, Colin Neilson said: “The first car had damage which cost £2000, the second had £3288 and the third had £1000.”
Representing Szolt, defence agent Ian Woodward Nutt, said: “My client is a Hungarian national who is a full-time student in Aberdeen.
“He left the party under the influence and has no recollection of committing these offences.
“He is a man of very modest means and would struggle to make a payment of a fine.
“The figures of the damage have not been verified they may be estimates from the owners.
“He has no previous offences and has pleaded guilty at the earliest possible opportunity.”
Sheriff Colin Dunipace said: “There are three people who have lost out financially because of your actions and the court has to take account of this.
“I am going to defer sentence on you for six months to give you the chance to save up as much as possible to pay in compensation.”
Szolt will return to court in March.
