Police are appealing for witnesses after a bin was set alight on Hanover Street in Fraserburgh.
The incident happened late on Saturday evening adjacent to the town’s bus station.
Constable Neale Gawthorpe said: “The fire, had it not been dealt promptly by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, could have easily spread.
“It goes without saying that this could have been a far more serious incident.”
