A popular steak restaurant in an Aberdeenshire town has closed down suddenly.

Jack’s Steakhouse and Grill on Market Street in Ellon shut its doors yesterday due to the “challenging trading environment in the area”.

Six people have lost their jobs as a result.

The business had been operated by entrepreneur Chris Farman, of the Aberdeen Combat Centre and the Jack’s Steakhouse and Grill on Crown Terrace in Aberdeen.

A statement from the restaurant said: “The challenging trading environment in the area over recent months, coupled with changing consumer habits and rising overheads, has resulted in many traditional businesses closing down.

“Jack’s Steakhouse and Grill Ellon is unfortunately no exception.

“It is with deep regret that we are now ceasing to trade as a business, effective immediately.

“Management would like to thank their customers, suppliers and staff for their support and custom over the last couple of months.”

The Aberdeen branch will remain open.

Mr Farman, the director of Jack’s Steakhouse in Ellon said: “Jack’s in Ellon got off to a really good start, but over the past three or four months there’s been a slow decline of numbers and inconsistent figures.

“We had six employees all together.

“We had a meeting with all staff members and our HR team before we made the decision to announce the closure, so all staff were told well in advance.”

Mr Farman said any vouchers purchased for the restaurant in Ellon would be redeemable at the Aberdeen Jack’s Steakhouse and Grill.
